A nutrition benefit your people actually use
Most food and wellness benefits go unused because they ask the employee to do the work. Morrissey Market ships a box of real groceries to the employee’s home, built by registered dietitians, on the cadence you choose. No app to download, no reimbursement to chase, no store to get to. You set the population and the budget. We handle the food, the packing, the shipping, and the reporting.
What a nutrition benefit looks like
A nutrition benefit is a recurring box of groceries you fund for some or all of your employees. It is not a meal kit subscription and it is not a gift card. The box arrives with fresh produce, protein, dairy, grains, and shelf-stable pantry items, chosen by dietitians and shipped cold.
Employers use it in a few different ways:
- A standing benefit for the whole population, weekly or monthly
- A targeted benefit for employees managing a diet-related condition
- A companion benefit alongside a GLP-1 or weight management program
- A hardship or food security benefit for hourly and shift workers
- A seasonal or pilot program, to test participation before committing for a plan year
You do not have to pick one. Most programs start narrow and widen once participation data comes in.
How it works
- Scope. You tell us the population, the volume, and the geography. We come back with a menu, a per-box price, and a launch date.
- Enroll. We take an eligibility file from you or your TPA. Employees do not sign up with us separately and they do not enter payment information.
- Ship. Boxes go to the employee’s home address, packed cold, with recipes and nutrition guidance included.
- Report. You get monthly reporting on boxes shipped, delivery confirmation, participation, and any service exceptions, formatted so your benefits team and your broker can both use it.
Sample boxes ship before launch. Your team sees the real thing, not a spec sheet.
What is in the box
Every box is built by registered dietitians on a seasonal, rotating menu, so employees are not receiving the same food every week.
- Fresh produce, protein, dairy, grains, and shelf-stable pantry items
- Standard, vegetarian, allergen-friendly, and kids formats
- Condition-appropriate builds where the program calls for them, including higher-protein and higher-fiber boxes
- Culturally appropriate substitutions built into the menu rather than added on request
- Recipes and simple prep guidance in every box
If your program needs the box to carry your own branding, we do that too. See White Label Grocery.
Pricing that holds across the plan year
Food prices move. Benefit budgets do not.
We quote a per-box price and hold it across the plan year, so your cost per participant is knowable in advance and your finance team is not repricing mid-year. Pricing steps down as volume grows, and the step points are set before launch rather than negotiated later.
There is no cost to the employee and no payment information collected from them.
What your benefits team and broker receive
Monthly reporting covering boxes shipped, delivery confirmation, participation rate, and any service exceptions. We build the report around what your program actually needs to show, rather than handing you a fixed template.
If you work through a broker, a TPA, or a benefits consultant, we work with them directly and keep you copied.
Frequently asked questions
What is an employee nutrition benefit?
It is a recurring box of groceries the employer funds and Morrissey Market ships to the employee’s home. It is not a meal kit, not a reimbursement program, and not a gift card. The food is selected by registered dietitians and arrives ready to cook.
Who is this for?
Self-insured employers, TPAs, and benefits consultants building a food or nutrition benefit. It fits populations where food access, food cost, or diet-related conditions are affecting your people, and it fits alongside an existing wellness or condition management program.
How do employees enroll?
Through you. We take an eligibility file from your team or your TPA and ship to the addresses on it. There is no separate signup with Morrissey Market, no app, and no payment information collected from the employee.
What comes in the box?
Fresh produce, protein, dairy, grains, and shelf-stable pantry items on a seasonal, rotating menu, with recipes included. Standard, vegetarian, allergen-friendly, and kids formats are available.
Can employees with allergies or dietary restrictions participate?
Yes. We run vegetarian and allergen-friendly formats, and condition-appropriate boxes are built with registered dietitians where a program calls for them. Tell us what your population needs and we build to it.
Where do you deliver?
Nationwide, to the home. Transit is one to two days from our East Coast and West Coast fulfillment, and boxes are packed cold for that window.
How is it priced?
Per box, held across the plan year. Pricing steps down as volume grows and the step points are agreed before launch. There is no cost to the employee.
Can this work alongside our GLP-1 or weight management program?
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons employers come to us. Your clinical team sets the nutrition spec and we build to it. For GLP-1 populations that usually means a higher protein target, more fiber, and smaller portion sizes that match a reduced appetite, with milder, lower-fat items during the titration period. We work with registered dietitians on menu design, and if your own dietitian has an approved spec, we build to that instead.
Does this replace our wellness vendor?
No. It sits alongside them. We are the food, not the platform. If your wellness or care management vendor wants the delivery data, we can feed it to them.
What reporting do we get?
Monthly reporting on boxes shipped, delivery confirmation, participation, and service exceptions, in a format your benefits team and your broker can both use.
Is a food benefit taxable to the employee?
That depends on how you structure and fund it, and we are not tax advisors. Confirm the treatment with your benefits counsel or tax advisor before you launch. We will provide whatever documentation of the benefit they need.
How long does it take to launch?
Four to six weeks from a signed scope in most cases. The two things that set the timeline are menu sign-off and packaging lead time, which runs three to eight weeks if the program needs custom printing.
