November Community Partner: Gaining Ground - Morrissey Market-Food is Medicine Produce Delivery
November Community Partner: Gaining Ground
November 2, 2022
Morrissey Market chose to partner with Gaining Ground for November community partner after its recent feature in Edible Boston magazine. We learned about its organic farm that is dedicated to growing food to help improve food security in the Greater Boston area.
At this farm, it isn’t just a small portion that is donated to food pantries and programs. No, 100% of everything grown on the four-acre farm is donated to programs that help connect those in need to fresh, organic produce.
We had the privilege of getting a tour of the farm with Christine Savage, their Communications Director. One of the most notable things she said was, “hunger is a four season issue.” As a farm in New England, the impact of the weather is unavoidable. However, with some changes over the past few years, Gaining Ground is able to continue producing some food and storing others for distribution in their newly built barn.
Gaining Ground is based on town land in Concord and is open to the public. We saw people walking their dogs on the paths along with volunteers harvesting the crops on a beautiful September day. There are over 2,500 volunteers annually that help support Gaining Ground. In 2016, the farm transitioned to a “no till” farm, which allows for better quality soil health.
You can help support Gaining Ground this month by ordering a Giving Box, full of fresh vegetables and fruit. For every box ordered, Gaining Ground will receive a $15 donation to continue the growth of the farm. Morrissey Market will also donate $1 for every order placed during the entire month of November. We had our largest number of orders in October and look forward to breaking that record again to help benefit Gaining Ground.
Millions of our neighbors in New England live with food insecurities. Help us in our mission to build stable, sustainable and local food systems. Morrissey Market donates $1 for every grocery delivery order to a non-profit in the hunger-relief space in Greater Boston.
